Reliable and Efficient Chip-PCB Hybrid PUF and Lightweight Key Generator

Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) is a promising lightweight hardware security primitive that can extract device fingerprints for encryption or authentication. However, extracting from either the chip board individually has flaws and cannot provide system-level security. This paper proposes new Chip-PCB hybrid PUF(CPR PUF) in which Weak PUF on PCB combined with Strong inside to generate massive responses under control of challenges on-chip PUF. structure tightly couples into an inseparable unclonable unit thus verify authenticity as well board. To improve uniformity reliability PUF, we propose key generator based self-test debiasing algorithm stable secure keys unreliable biased responses, eliminates expensive error correction processes. The FPGA-based test results show after robust extraction achieve high uniqueness, reliability, anti-counterfeiting features. Moreover, greatly reduces execution cost bit rate less than 10-9, overall also improved by eliminating entropy leakage helper data.
